Kevin Johnson has give Van Damme Blue Series Studio Grade 2 x 2.5 mm / 12M Speaker Cable
Reviewer: Kevin Johnson from Hull, United Kingdom
Details: Excellent Value Giant Killer
This product was delivered quickly, two days after ordering, and was well packaged. The cable is very well made the and the white text on the blue sleeve gives it a classy look that in practice blended well into our living room, fact much appreciated by my wife. In fact, it was less conspicuous than the QED silver anniversary I was using which surprised me as I would have thought the white cable to be the less conspicuous. What really matters though is the sound. First, here is some of my cable history. My cable history over the past 10 years has been:QED StandardChord RumourDNM Solid CoreQED AnniversaryVan Damme BlueMy progression over the years has brought steady improvements apart from the brief period with DNM solid core which a found to be a great disappointment - a very 'thin' sounding cable with a metallic edge to the sound. The QED Anniversary was by far the most cost effective cable I had used, and that's after trying a friends 'super' cable at £30 per metre! It is good across the frequency extremes and is very musical. However, having re-arranged our living room following an extension and requiring longer speaker cabling I had the urge to take the opportunity to further upgrade my system cabling, starting with the speaker cable.I did my research on the various forums for cabling to better the QED, the next step up the cost ladder really. I have found that I would have to spend significantly more to better the QED but also kept finding references to Van Damme Blue being an excellent cable in its own right. As the alternatives to the QED were not available for review in my home town, and having no travel plans for review purposes for a few months, I decided to purchase the Van Damme Blue as a temporary solution.I am so happy with the sound of the Van Damme after just a couple of day’s burn in that I no longer intend to purchase anything else and will be offering the QED to a friend. In common with the QED and other, more expensive, cables I have auditioned in the past the Van Damme is excellent at the frequency extremes but also has an open and lucid mid-band. The overall sound is not pushed forward as with some cables but is heard level with the speakers with good depth. The cable produces a big sound that is very, very musical. It allows the musicians emotional intent to show and instruments have a natural timbre to them. The Van Damme Blue was the equal of my friends 'super' cable (Kimber), as was the QED in my opinion. However, The Van Damme Blue does everything just right and, in my system, is a true giant killer. If it was to sell for ten times the price and have more fancy labelling, and pay for advertising in Hi-Fi magazines, then the Hi-Fi magazines would be raving about it and giving it five stars. This is an outstanding cable that does the job at a price that is quite frankly peanuts compared to other cable manufacturers.
